Or really Kessen gameplay - but given that I played III before I, I didn't really know that at the time. In regards to Kessen III's gameplay, I'll say I fall somewhere in the middle I enjoyed it immensely across my multiple playthroughs, but in hindsight I'm willing to concede it wasn't good gameplay. Kinda late to the conversation, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that there even was a Kessen thread. It was really entertaining, and the only thing I can say I really hate are those cringey segments where Liu Bei is talking to Diaochan in some crystal ball. Or any of the other number of shitposty things that happen in the game. Like the part where Liu Bei literally flies up into the sky and punches God because he's tired of God's bullshit mandate of heaven. Some aspects of the game are so campy and hilarious I can't help but enjoy it. Years later, I think it's an amazing shitpost. After I learned about the actual history of the Three Kingdoms, I thought it was retarded. When I first played it, I thought it was amazing.

It actually sorta reminds me of Bladestorm in some respects, but I also think it was an enormous step down from the previous two entries.Īs for Kessen II's story, my attitude towards it has changed over the years.

In a way, I think I'd be fine with the game if it wasn't called "Kessen." The gameplay wasn't the worst thing I ever played, but was just kind of mediocre/average. I agree that Kessen III had a good story, but I can't forgive it for how much it ruined the overall premise of the series. Commanding armies was reduced to hack n slash with units, and even the tactical skills you could use to gain the upper hand were reduced further to mostly rampaging to make the game even more hack-n-slashy. I feel it ruined the entire point of Kessen as a franchise.
